How to Find Your Flat Shoe Size

A simple way to measure your foot at home, read a size chart, and decide what to do when you fall between two sizes.

By ADAMUMU · 2026-10-02

Flats look simple, but a good fit matters more than it seems. A pair that is slightly too short pinches your toes; one that is too long slips at the heel. The good news: you only need a sheet of paper, a pen and a couple of minutes to find your size.

Measure your foot at home

  1. Measure later in the day. Feet swell a little through the day, so the evening gives you the most useful number.
  2. Stand on a sheet of paper on a hard floor, with your heel against a wall.
  3. Mark the longest toe. Keep your weight on the foot and mark the tip of your longest toe — it is not always the big toe.
  4. Measure from the wall to the mark in centimetres. Do this for both feet.
  5. Use the longer foot. Most people have one foot slightly bigger than the other; always size for the bigger one.
ADAMUMU styles are sold in EU sizes 36–41. Every product page has a size guide — compare your measurement to it rather than relying on the size you wear in another brand.

Reading a size chart

Size charts list a foot length for each size. Find the row that is closest to your measurement. Because a shoe needs a little room to move, if your foot length falls between two rows, the larger size is usually the safer choice for a closed-toe flat.

What if you are between sizes?

  • Think about how you will wear them. If you plan to wear socks or tights with your flats, the larger size gives you room.
  • Consider the style. Styles with an adjustable strap or buckle, like many Mary Janes, let you fine-tune the fit across the instep. Slip-on styles have no adjustment, so a snug fit is more noticeable.
  • Think about your foot shape. If your feet are wide, a little extra length can also make a pair feel more comfortable across the widest part of the foot.

A quick fit check when your pair arrives

Try them on indoors, on a clean floor, with the socks or tights you would normally wear. You should be able to wiggle your toes, your heel should stay in place when you walk, and nothing should rub or pinch. If the fit is not right, check the returns and exchange information on our help page.

Quick reference

  • Measure both feet, in the evening, standing up.
  • Size for the longer foot.
  • Compare to the size guide on the product page.
  • Between sizes? Choose by sock thickness, strap adjustability and foot width.
