How to Care for Mesh and Woven Flats

Simple, gentle ways to keep mesh and woven flats clean and in shape, plus what to avoid.

By ADAMUMU · 2026-10-02

Lighter materials like mesh and woven textures are a pleasure to wear, and a little regular care helps them look good for longer. These steps are gentle and suit most fabric and woven shoes. Always check the care note on your pair first, and follow it if it says something different.

After each wear

  • Shake or brush off dust. A soft, dry brush lifts loose dirt out of the weave before it works in.
  • Let them breathe. Leave your shoes somewhere with airflow for a few hours rather than putting them straight back in a closed box.

Cleaning light marks

  1. Dampen a soft cloth with lukewarm water. For a stubborn mark, add a tiny amount of mild soap.
  2. Wipe gently, working along the weave rather than scrubbing against it.
  3. Wipe again with a clean, damp cloth to remove any soap.
  4. Let the shoes air dry naturally, away from direct heat.
Our general guidance for ADAMUMU styles: wipe clean with a soft, damp cloth, air dry away from direct heat, and store in the dust bag or box.

What to avoid

  • Soaking. Too much water can affect glue, trims and shape.
  • Radiators, hair dryers and direct sun. Strong heat can warp soles and fade colour.
  • Harsh cleaners and bleach. They can discolour fabric and trims.
  • Washing machines. The tumbling is hard on the shoe's structure.

Storing your flats

Keep them in the dust bag or box, away from heat and damp. If a pair has a soft upper, stuffing the toes lightly with clean paper helps it keep its shape. Rotate your pairs rather than wearing the same ones every day — they last longer, and each pair has time to dry fully between wears.

Protecting metal details

For studs, buckles and crystals, wipe with a dry or very slightly damp cloth and dry straight away. Avoid rubbing them with abrasive materials.
