Best Flats for Wide Feet: What to Look For
Soft uppers, adjustable straps and rounded toes: what to look for in flats if you have wide feet.
A narrow strap or a stiff upper is usually what makes a flat shoe feel tight across the widest part of the foot. Here's what to look for if you have wide feet.
Look for soft, flexible uppers
Mesh, woven and soft suede-look uppers give a little with the shape of your foot, unlike stiff patent or structured leather-look materials. Several ADAMUMU styles use mesh or woven uppers for this reason.
Choose adjustable straps over fixed ones
Buckle straps (our Mary Janes and some mules) let you adjust the fit across the top of the foot. Fixed elastic or slip-on styles can feel snug if your foot is wider than average.
Avoid pointed toes if you have wide feet
A rounded or almond toe gives your toes more room than a sharply pointed one. Several of our Mary Jane and ballet flat styles use a rounded toe box.
Size up if you're between sizes
For wider feet, sizing up is usually more comfortable than sizing down and hoping a strap will stretch. See our size guide for exact measurements.
Styles to start with
Mesh and woven Mary Janes, and our flat mules with a wider slip-on opening, tend to work well for wider feet. Browse Mary Jane flats or browse mules.
